Cool-down locks and impulse control

Urge peaks are short. A forced wait before “turn protection off” uses that timing against the impulse.

Blocklists stop sites. Cool-downs stop renegotiation.

Most people who install a gambling blocker already know the domains. The failure mode is turning the tool off “just for tonight.” A cool-down (for example 24 hours in Self Exclusion) makes that bargain expensive.

What the delay is doing psychologically

It inserts time between intention and access. That gap is often enough for the spike to fall, for a walk, a call, or sleep to intervene.

How to set it usefully

Cool-down is not punishment

It is a commitment device you chose while clear-headed. Pair it with helplines and operator self-exclusion for coverage beyond one browser.
